Hello,
I'm Mikkel.
I like

My Work

Carpe Dilla

For this project, I had to create a website for a fictitious company or event. I named mine Carpe Dilla, a restaurant that specializes in gourmet quesadillas; it is a play on words of the phrase "carpe diem," or "seize the day." You can see a live version of the site here.

Tools Used

  • HTML & CSS
  • jQuery

Iterations

This is the style tile I made to help flesh out my ideas for how I wanted the site to look.

3D Demo Reel

This is my current 3D animation demo reel on Vimeo. Most of these are personal projects to practice and develop my skills, ranging from fluid simulations to create fire effects, to original character concepts.

Tools Used

  • Maya

Iterations

This was the original concept for this project.

An alternate form of the original; this one is a more stealthy version.

And now a more mechanical version of the original concept. You can see a short I made using this character on Vimeo.

FireSwing Splash Screen

FireSwing Studios was a start up that I worked at for a couple summers. This was intended to be a splash screen for the app that we were working on. Although this splash screen was never implemented, it is still one of my favorite things that I have made.

Tools Used

  • Maya

Iterations

fireswing v1

This is the first version of the splash screen. I was still experimenting with the fluid dynamics to get the right look for the flame.

fireswing v2

At this point, I had fine-tuned the fluid effects to get the desired look for the flames.

fireswing v3

We wanted to try a lighter colored background.

fireswing v4

It was requested to have a glass-breaking effect, just to see how it would look.

fireswing final

This is a screenshot of the final render. You can see the full animation in my demo reel on Vimeo.

Movie Poster Mockup

I had a class design project to create a movie poster for a fictitious film. I was only limited by the titles and images I could use; I could use these however I saw fit; there were other constraints, like needing to use a certain format for the bottom copy and movie rating graphics.

Tools Used

  • InDesign
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator

Iterations

This was my first pass at this poster.

Playing with alignment, spacing and overall size of the elements.

Personal Identity & Branding

Tools Used

  • InDesign
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator

Iterations

The purpose of this project was to create an interactive PDF for viewing on an iPad. The design could be anything of my choice, as long as it incorporated a certain amount of interactivity and had all essential information.

About Me

My Background

I was born and raised in Nipomo, CA. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Graphic Communication from California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo) in June 2015; my concentration was in Web and Digital Media.

My Interests

I enjoy coding (primarily HTML/CSS and JavaScript), playing music (trombone and bass guitar are my weapons of choice) and I also dabble as a 3D artist. You can see some of my work above.

The Future

The future is a moving target. I have a lot of passions and interests, including web development, music, 3D animation and cooking; I pursue all of these on some level, but there are some I focus on more than others. I haven’t figured out exactly which of these will be my career, but for now web development and music are my strongest leads.
